Marco Tardelli likes World At Your Feet

World At Your Feet has been given an unexpected but very welcome endorsement from one of the stars of the book.

Marco Tardelli, who scored a dramatic goal against West Germany for Italy in the 1982 World Cup final, liked his likeness from the book via his official Twitter account when we tweeted the illustration from the @WorldAYF account.

Tardelli's left-footed shot from the edge of the penalty area put Italy 2-0 up at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid in the 69th minute of the final. The Azzurri went on to win the win the match 3-1 and lift the trophy.

The goal is remembered for the then Juventus midfielder's iconic celebration. He ran towards Italy's coaching staff screaming: "Gol! Gol!" His tear-filled, bulging eyes and clenched fists ensured the moment would go down in World Cup history and ensured its place in our children football book.

Speaking about the moment and his famous Tardelli cry, he said: "After I scored, my whole life passed before me - the same feeling they say you have when you are about to die, the joy of scoring in a World Cup final was immense, something I dreamed about as a kid, and my celebration was a release after realising that dream. I was born with that scream inside me, that was just the moment it came out."

We tried to capture those sentiments in the book and Tardelli's liking of the illustration suggests we got somewhere near the mark.
